Adult Learning Wales

Adult Provision

Adult Learning Wales is the national adult community learning organisation for Wales, committed to widening participation, promoting active citizenship and skills development across all 22 local authority areas.

Adult Learning Wales’ provision in Swansea focuses predominantly on the delivery of ‘general’ and ‘contextualised’ ESOL courses, as well as courses in Family Learning.

Nearly all of ALW’s provision is delivered face-to-face, at its ‘Swansea Learning Hub’ on Princess Way and in a number of community venues across Swansea city centre and its suburbs.

Partnership Work

Through the REACH Project, Adult Learning Wales works closely with Gower College, Swansea, to deliver ESOL provision across the city. Adult Learning Wales is also present at the REACH Assessment Hub on the Kingsway, in the centre of the city, where its REACH ESOL Assessor is based, working closely alongside Gower College’s REACH ESOL Assessor, in the initial assessment of ESOL learners.

Adult Learning Wales works closely with Swansea Lifelong Service (part of the Local Authority) in the delivery of Carpentry and Woodwork provision, for its learners, at Adult Learning Wales’ nearby ‘Port Talbot Learning Hub’, in the neighbouring county of Neath Port Talbot, where learners enjoy classes in general carpentry, woodwork and pyrography and wood art.

Adult Learning Wales has a number of long established partnerships with third sector organisations in Swansea, such as the African Community Centre, SASS, Faith in Families and a number of local primary schools. Adult Learning Wales’ tutors deliver ESOL and Family Learning classes at these organisations’ venues, for their service users and families.
